the twenty-ninth of november, a back-to-the-grind monday

Greetings and salutations, everyone. Hope you all had at least a bearable holiday.

Mine was pleasant and rather unremarkable. We did nothing on Thursday but eat and watch television, just as it should be. On Friday we went to Extrasmallville to visit with my grandfather for a couple of hours. (I'm trying to remember what the hell we did on Wednesday, but I can't. My brother and I went to Sam's, but that's about all.)

My brother left Saturday out of DC, so I went home for a bit while my parents drove him down. Picked up some books, got my mail, bonded with the cat, came back to the 'rents.

That was about it. No flinging of mashed potatoes, no tossed Monopoly boards, no huffs at all.

My parents and I went to see the Bond movie Saturday night. I have to say I enjoyed it very much. Those movies are perfect escapist fodder... there isn't a minute in them that could happen in real life, and that's what makes it so fun. Plus Pierce Brosnan couldn't possibly look any better. It would be illegal.

The only thing wrong with it was that John Cleese wasn't in it enough. And Denise Richards sucked. Oh, and there was a collective groan in the theater after the extraordinarily tacky last line. Otherwise, it was just a damn fun movie.

Yesterday was all about football, Christmas tree shopping (which took about five minutes -- we went to this small independent place and bought the first one we saw), lasagne with my newly-engaged cousin who came over for dinner just for fun, The X-Files and The Practice (rehashes tomorrow, I swear, for those of you holding your breath for them). All in all, quite a nice little holiday, which I did not allow to be overshadowed by the fact that my exams start next week.

I cannot wait until next year, when I will once again be able to actually enjoy the Christmas season. Now all it does is make me anxious over exams.

Well, I do have one thing that I am looking forward to, and that is this weekend, when I'm off to meet Colleen and Kate and Mel, plus probably Patrick and Kymm and Elspeth!! I can't wait to finally meet these people who I already consider my friends (well, except for Kymm, who I don't think reads me, but she's friends with everyone, right?) This is one reason I wish my journaling life was public, because I'm so damn excited about this trip, but I can't tell anyone in my "real" life about it.

I have to admit, I'm also a little nervous about it. I'm just insecure enough to be afraid that everyone will think I'm a big nerd. Intellectually I know that won't be the case, but I can't help but be just a little bit apprehensive.

Yet somehow I know those fears will be banished the instant I walk into that theater on Friday, settle into a seat next to Colleen, watch Kate perform in Mel's show, and then go back to see it again with Patrick and Kymm and Elspeth on Saturday. It can't be anything but chock full of journaler goodness!!! ;)

That's about it. I just wanted to throw something up (not literally, mind you) to let you know I lived through the weekend. Impending exams mean scattered entries, but I will do my best. (I actually an exam tomorrow morning, in my one-credit accounting class. I'm so not worried about it because (a) it's credit/no credit which means I only have to get a 70, (b) it's open book, and (c) the guy told us he's been teaching this class for 9 years and has only ever failed one person, someone who never came to class. Hey, I went every other time, so who am I to be concerned?)

And welcome to everyone who's joined the notify list recently. I'm glad you're aboard.
